Divorced Mom Broke Free from Affair with Strength of God
You never know how God will lead. Chenli came to the Outreach as a divorced single-mom. She had studied Buddhism before when her marriage was falling apart. At the Outreach we shared the Gospel with her, but she wasn’t interested. Even at our staff meetings, we didn’t think she would be likely to receive. This is how limited humans are. However, God leads in ways beyond our understanding. Because Chenli was divorced, she was always very lonely when she was by herself, and continued to search for a new partner. So after the divorce she got herself into a few relationships, yet none of them turned out well. In fact, Chenli had just gotten out of another bad relationship when we first met her at the Outreach. At one of her son’s school event, Chenli became drawn to a man who’s married. Although she knew this relationship was not good for her, Chenli fell for the man anyway. The relationship took off and it escalated very quickly. The man’s wife became aware of the affair and Chenli’s existence and things got ugly. The man told Chenli it would be impossible for him to marry her, but he would like to keep this relationship going. Chenli struggled. One part of her didn’t want to get hurt anymore, but the other part of her didn’t want to break up from the comfort of this relationship. When Chenli shared with us her struggle, we prayed for her and shared with her Biblical principles. Enjoyment and fulfillment in the flesh is only temporary, but those who seek God for spiritual fulfillment will find it in Him. After Chenli repented, we also gave her practical things she could do to help her withstand temptation. Thankfully throughout the whole process Chenli had a heart that was humble and receptive. Although the man continued to harass her, Chenli overcame by praying and she experienced strength from God. Eventually he stopped calling. Chenli said she felt God’s love. Whenever she asked, she received. Every time she prayed, God spoke to her and gave her peace beyond her understanding. So Chenli came to us with a decision to be baptized into Christ and into God’s big, loving family.
